RE: Using multiple domains interchangeably to send/receive emails

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you want company X clients
can connect POP3 accounts in company Y. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following general steps to
resolve this issue:

1. Enable POP3 service on company Y Exchange server and do internal test:

a. Open Exchange System Manager, extend
Servers->SBSServerName->Protocols->POP3

b. Right click Default POP3 Virtual Server, select Start.

c. Open company Y internal Outlook Express, configure POP3 connect to
exchange and test. If success, go step 2

2. Publish POP3 to external. (SMTP is really publish by default)

If company Y uses ISA server:

a. Please open the ISA management console, navigate to Firewall Policy,
right click "Firewall Policy" and click New->Mail Server publishing Rule,

b. Go through the wizard, select POP3 Standard ports and Secure port, then
input internal Exchange server IP address to publish.

c. Click Apply to save all the settings.

If company Y uses Router, please redirect the port 110 and 995 to Exchange
server.

3. Rerun CEICW in company X SBS server to ensure clients can access
Internet. Go through the follow KB and Rerun CEICW again carefully.

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us

4. Configure company X clients' Outlook connect Exchange server in company Y

a. Open Microsoft Outlook, click Tools, select E-mail Accounts

b. Select Add a new e-mail account, Next

c. Select POP3, click Next

d. Input company Y Exchange Server address and logon info etc.

e. Test this issue.

Note: We can use 110 or 995 port to connect POP3, by we do not recommend
using port 465 to connect SMTP.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:

1. What is the version of Exchange server in company Y?

2. Is there any error message when you try to connect company Y's Exchange
server?

3. Can you telnet 25 and 110 from company X internal to Exchange server in
company Y?

4. Please let me know the detail steps you did, and then I will help you to
do troubleshooting.

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hello everyone and thank you for taking this time to help me out.
|
| A client company (@X.com, on SBS 2003 Premium Ed.), were recently
acquired
| by head company (@Y.com). Since the merge, Company X must now use
Company
| Y's mail server so they can monitor all email transactions (in/out).
| However, Company X still wants to maintain some autonomy and would like
to
| have 2 email accounts such that they may choose email account @X.com (not
| monitored) or @Y.com (monitored by company Y), to transact on depending
on
| the type of emails involved. Not every user of Company X have a mailbox
on
| Company Y's mail server. Therefore any changes on the mail server of
Company
| X must be granular and not global.
|
| We have attempted to add an account on the respective user's Outlook
having
| both the Exchange Server specifications AND the remote mail server of
Company
| Y (POP and SMTP server). The new account tests unsuccessfully. All
| additional pertinent ports (465, 995) are opened on both the ISA Server
2004
| and the router, although I doubt this is necessary. We have looked into
SMTP
| Connectors but I am not sure this will work out since it would affect all
| users on Company X.
|
| I realize this sounds confusing and I would be more than happy to
clarify.
| Please advise. Thank you for your time.
