Re: SBS Install blue screening or hang

Thank you again Merv, and yes, I've upgraded that one too.

One thing strikes me as odd. The Supermicro motherboard supports 2 CPUs, and
there are two Xeon 2GHz CPUs installed. In the Windows GUI phase of the
installation (when I get that far), I get a warning saying that "more than 2
CPUs are installed". I got a note from Supermicro tech support this morning
suggesting I remove one of the CPUs and try that way. There is no BIOS,
jumper, or DIP switch setting to enable/disable a CPU, I'll physically have
to remove it. If I try this, and the installation succeeds, can I then
reinstall the second CPU? Have you ever heard of this? Do you know what the
OS is reading when it finds MORE than 2 CPUs in the system?

Thanks again for the keeping on here, and I hope you and yours have a very
Happy Holiday season.

And I suspect you updated the raid controller driver too...

Merv,

Thanks for the thought, but yes. I upgraded the BIOS (v1.2a most current
from SuperMicro's website), and also one time when I actually GOT as far
as a
normal Windows screen, I found the most recent video driver (and ATI
Rage128)
as well.

Just a thought... Have you tried a BIOS upgrade or Video driver upgrade?

Attempting to installing SBS 2003 R2 on a server that had been running
2000
SBS, but getting random BSOD errors at random times. I originally tried
doing
a direct upgrade, but after a couple of BSOD problems I tried
reformatting
the HD and running the setup from the boot CD, but the problems
persist.
Hardware is SuperMicro P4DL6 dual Xeon, 1G RAM, Adaptec 3210S Raid5
SCSI
(4x73G Seagate Cheetah drives). Errors include just your basic hang,
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and sometimes just BSOD
without
a
specific error. I've tried swapping RAM, and reinstalling SBS2000 clean
(which works) and upgrading from there, no joy. I'm sure it's a driver
crash,
but all drivers load from the R2 CD. Not yet pulling my hair out, but
getting
there. Thanks, Ernie
