Okay, got the server rebooted and ran a backup job. It failed:

I recall seeing a Symantec update for AOFO just released. You may want to
look into the BE updates and Service packs.

Running SBS 2003 Premium, ISA 2004, Exchange, WSUS, 2 NIC's and
arouter, dynamic IP, DDNS service from dyndns.org. Backup s/w is
Symantec's BackUp Exec 10.1 (10d).
==================================
Got a problem I hope you folks can help me with. Here's the post I
placed on a Symantec/Veritas forum on this problem - didn't get a
response:
"I'm running BackUp exec 10.1 (10d) on Small Business Server 2003
Premium. After installing Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB923980) via
WSUS, my backup's are failing with this error. When I click on the
link, it goes to a page at Symantec stating the file can't be found.

The errors are:
Backup- WCTAOFO: Initialization failure on: "Shadow?Copy?Components".
Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service
(VSS).
VSS Snapshot error. Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) cannot
communicate with the writers. Check that the Volume Shadow Copy Service
is started, and check the Windows Event Viewer for errors related to
this service.
Backup- C: Directory
C:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\domain\DO_NOT_REMOVE_NtFrs_PreInstall_Directory was
not found, or could not be accessed.
None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

What can I/should I do to correct this problem?"

I went to eventid.net yesterday and typed in the ID code and the latest
posting advises to do the following:
1. Backup
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem\{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216}\Subscriptions
2. Delete the regkey
3. Reboot
4. Verify that things are working by running "vssadmin list writers"
from a command prompt.

Did this, but nothing listed as a VSS list writer. My log file this
morning showed the same failure as above. Did a search on this error
on Technet and came up empty. Any ideas?
