Since you've stated it's a true hardware mirror Charlie is right. The
RAID controller did all of the work and hid the fact that there was a
mirror from the OS. So as far as the individual drivers and the OS
were concerned there was only a single drive.

Each drive is capable of running fully on it's own, with data intact,
if taken off of the RAID controller and placed onto a non-raid
controller.

Or, could the NEW mainboard format the drive? Or would it be that the
NEW MB
can't or rather will not be able to see the HDD because of the
hardware RAID?
