Re: Offline Files and RDC (Multiple)

Hi Ian,

I'm not sure, but I think you issue may stem from the fact that you've already joined the device to your testbed domain, and configured a user with my documents redirection, and/or offline folders. You'll most likely need to back out of that.

If you can undo document redirection and offline folders (which are pointing to your test domain), remove the test domain user account, and unjoin the computer from the test domain (join a workgroup), you should be able to start fresh on your customers domain.

Create a computer account on the customers SBS server.
Connect the device to the customers SBS network.
From the device, IE, http://<sbs_servername>/connectcomputer, selecting the
computer name you created in the first step.

I am a newbie at this SBS Server 2003. A client has it on their server and
has just purchased a new tablet PC from me - my job/mission - "to connect
said tablet PC" to the server to replicate the function the client had with
his previous notebook (a life expired Dell - although that's irrlevant!).
Simple enough task but......

My theory (Which I'd tested here on my testbed machine - an IBM x100 with
SBS Server 2003 loaded - where I'm "...pulling the wings off to see how it
flies...") was that all I needed to do was to identify the computer to the
server and to then create a basic connection to the server from the Tablet PC
with a login setup exactly how the old notebook had it - then restart the
Tablet and login - the server "should" do the rest by deploying the apps,
settings and so forth during Synch!

Well that worked fine on my system - which I'd setup exactly how the clients
system is setup (bar for the 10gb of data that is!). But when I try it on
the clients system it all goes fried egg!

First a panel comes up telling me that "Multiple Remote Desktops are
configured on the system" and that "Offline Files ain't available when
Multiple Remote Desktops are configured" - which had me rolling in the aisles
- aren't servers designed to be multi-tasking these days - or is it me with a
squiffy understanding perhaps?

Also its not at all clear whether the message is talkin about the "Client"
machine having multiple remote desktops configured or the "Server". I've
spent half a day today going round in circles until I fell asleep at the
keyboard (I've got the flue and am dropping off into OAP mode frequently!).
Got a full day on site tomorrow - Friday - and it would be really nice if I
had some answers to my dilema.

How do I get the file synch/offline files thingummy setup - or at least how
do I remove whatever has got setup to config "multiple remote desktop
connections" so as to allow offline files gizmo to work??

I think - mainly - I've got too close to the wood to see the trees - but I'd
be more than grateful for any tips/help since - in my utter madness on Monday
I told the client that if I hadn't got it working by close of play Friday
(tomorrow) I'd waive my fees (must have been the flu setting in!) - with Xmas
coming up my wife (who can toast bread on both sides with a single breath
wihtout blinking or wincing!) is NOT going to be overly impressed if I tell
her we can't do the Xmas shopping again this weekend!!! In fact, I fear I'll
be cremated (By the way she is available for christenings, barmitzvah's,
weddings and funerals for a fee - Fire Breathing without artificial aids etc
- goes down a storm!<grin>).

Thanks in advance - please help save our Christmas!!!
regards
Ian
