Re: Disconnecting and reconnecting pc to domain remotely

I don't know if I've ever seen the _setup_ user profile get deleted. No biggie. Most of the time I don't bother deleting it either.

I've joined machines to the network via RDP many times, that part of the process should be fine. So I'd say you have succeeded :-)

Hi

The process works to some extent i.e. I am able to disconnect then connect locally, local administrator login does not work but another user on the workstation does (even though both seem to have the same settings). Then the connectcomputer wizard starts and restarts the pc. After that even waiting for a long time when I try to login it says __sbs_setup__ is still logged in. So essentially the connectcomputer wizard can not finish for some reason. Even though by the time I login it has already set joined pc to the domain but it has not deleted the __sbs_setup__ user that it creates which I deleted manually. Does this sound successful enough?

Regards

I can't say I've tested it, but see no reason why it won't work. So long as the workstation remains reachable at the network level, RDP is enabled, and you have credentials for both local and domain logins ..... In fact, you should be able to log onto the workstation using a local user account even while it's still a domain member (just to test the local credentials).

I think if you ensure there is a local (workstation) administrator level account that has permission to RDP (and, you know the password ;-)), it should be possible.

You'd need to first connect to your server desktop, then connect to the workstation via RDP (as a domain admin). Once connected, you could remove the workstation from the domain by joining a workgroup, and restart.

The same method should connect you to the workstation (know it's IP address, just in case you can't RDP by name). You'll need to log on with that *local* account this time, though - and run \connectcomputer.

Oh, and it needs to be an XP box ;-).
