Re: how to manually join a workstation (xp pro) to the sbs 2003 domain

Hi Roger,

You can move the workstations from the current OU to the MyBusiness | Computers | SBSComputers OU. This step will ensure the GPO configuration is applied.

Once done, run the Assign Applications Wizard, selecting the computers in question. This step will look after SBS specific settings for:

IE
Outlook Profile
Desktop Settings
Fax Printer (if selected)
Printers (AD published)
Fax Configuration (if selected)
Remote Desktop settings.

On the last item - it's likely you'll need to go into the computer properties (local) on the workstations to specifically allow a user or group RDP permission. (the domain administrator will be automatically added).

Hi guys,

Here's a question: I have a situation where workstations were joined to
a SBS2003 domain manually. What is the best way to fix this? Can I
simply use http://server/connectcomputer now or will that mess things
up? Should I remove the workstation first and then run
http://server/connectcomputer? Note that these workstations have been
working fine for exchange and file access but are not yet running RWW
which is planned.

If you don't use the connectcomputer wizard, you are going to have to do a
lot of work after the fact to get everything working right. I'm not a huge
fan of wizards myself, in general, but in SBS, you really need to use them
if you want a working server & domain.
