Re: PPTP misery

Thanks Matt. However, extract from my first post on this thread reads:

"...Reason - took a machine off the domain
to get at switching Firewall off - problem remained. Saw this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271731 and thought the regedit might help -
it didn't. However, it must be something to do with the registry surely?....."

I agree it looks very hopeful but now re-reading not so sure the scenario
matches the description other than the 721 error. I will look at it again on
another machine to check but not sure it will help. Can I confirm the value
required? Is it "0" or "1"? Have tried both but it'd be good to know for sure.

I still think the registry is the problem. I'm wondering whether there's
something similar to the above that might fix it?

Question - You started your reply by saying "believe it or not it's a
configuration issue on the server" (sic), then go on to describe the regedit
for a client. Am I missing something, should I actually be doing a regedit on
the server instead of/as well as?

Simon

Thanks for doing that, had to eliminate it.

I'm pretty sure I know what you're problem is, and believe it or not
it's a configuration issue on the server.

Easy enough to check though.

On one of the windows xp *domain* computers, backup the registry (just
in case), and do the following:

1.Click *Start*, and then click* Run*.2.In the *Open* box, type
*regedit*, and then click *OK*.3.Locate the following subkey, where
<000x> is the network adapter for the WAN Miniport (PPTP) driver:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\<000x>

4.On the *Edit* menu, point to *New*, and then click *DWORD
Value*.5.Type ValidateAddress, and then press ENTER.

*Note* By default, the Data value is *0 (Off)*. 6.Quit Registry
Editor.7.Restart your computer and try your connection again. My guess
is that it will work.
