Re: SBS 2003 disconnects all users

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Can we assume the machine has been service packed and that the drivers
and firmware are up to date? What model of network card?

If the network card has been replaced, did that happen as a result of a
service call with HP? I ask, because they would have asked you to run
hardware diagnostics.

What kind of switch is in place (name and model)? Although I suspect
that the answer lies with the SBS hanging when you attempt to
enable/disable the card.

I ask about the model of the network card because I wonder if rolling
back a version may work.

We have this problems since the new installation of a HP proliant
ML350 server and SBS 2003 this summer. Randomly the server
disconnects all users (one a 5-8 days).

Meaning, all the users come in in the morning, they all log in (as
they
don't stay logged in overnight, right??), they start working, and
then
they all get kicked out of their sessions? What are the exact
symptoms?

that's correct everyone logs out every day and logs in in the morning.
The server stays 24h on. When it happens everyone detects a slowdown
and a balloon in the right corner says: Server xxx is offline. Then all
connections are lost.

The server is than still
accessible.

From where?
Only from the console of the server. It's not accessible from other
workstation or from VPN.

From server I cannot ping to the servers IP adress.

You can't ping the server's own internal / LAN IP from its own
console?
That's correct. When I try to disable/enable the networkcard under
configuration SBS hangs in this service.

When I restart the server from the console everything is OK again.
