Thanks much. There is a third party reselling the ISP
service involved to my client and I suspect that may prove a
tad beyond him - said as diplomatically as possible :-))
In fact, in the words of the esteemed zen sage Bart Simpson
he'll 'have a cow man' - LOL - I should be so lucky...

SBS2k3 standard, fully patched and sp'd.
I'm in the process of planning a client's move from POP3
connector to SMTP on their SBS box.
My question is:-
Can I set up the SMTP virtual server to run in parallel
with
the pop3 connector and leave that running with server in
production, until the ISP gets around to sorting out the
DNS
MX records for us, without any adverse effects?
Thanks in advance.
Instead of waiting for so-called "DNS propagation time", I
suggest that, several days before you want to make the
cutover, have the DNS host lower the TTL (time to live) on
the
zone to something very low. Then, when you make the MX
record
change, it will take place very quickly. Then, they can
change
the TTL back to its normal settings.
