Probably not - these have only been out for a very short time. They're very
similar - almost identical - to this one, which has been getting some good
commentary. http://www.rdxquikstor.com/.
This seems like the kind of device that would be unlikely to have a lot of
issues - it seems like they should just work. It's pretty mature technology
and seems very similar to a lot of devices that have been around for a long
time.
Backup to disk is definitely the trend going forward, so I think we're going
to see a lot more of these devices. I like the ones that use laptop drives
because I think the drives will withstand travel better if you take them
offsite. The best backup in the world is no good if the drive fails because
it flew off your car seat. These Dell and Tandberg models seem to take that
into account.
One area where they could be better IMO is if they used eSata instead of
USB2. eSata is considerably faster, although I'm not actually sure whether
the bottleneck would be the connection or the drive speed.
So you can be the guinea pig for this one, and please by all means post back
and let us know how you like it.

Does anyone have any good or bad experience using a Dell external
Powervault RD1000 disk based backup solution on SBS2k3?
I am trying to avoid the $1400.00 of a tape unit (plus cost of tapes) to
backup a 140 gig server.
Thanks
JB
