Hello Customer,
Thanks for your posting here.
According to your description, I understand that the mails in the queue
make backup failed. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't
hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:
Step 1: Purge queue folders before backup
===============
1. Please stop the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol service:
a. Run services.msc on exchange server
b. Find Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service, right-click it,
select Stop.
2. Please clear all the queues from windows file system. To do so, double
click My Computer, locate to the folder for queues, it is
"Exchsrvr\mailroot\vsi#\queue" (# is a number. The number for the Default
SMTP Virtual Server is 1). Then, we can delete all the subfolders under
Queue to purge all the messages.
3. Please start the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol service:
a. Run services.msc on exchange server
b. Find Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service, right-click it,
select Start.
4. Try to backup your SBS system and test this issue.
Note: We no need to backup the queue files in the folders
Step 2: Exclude the queue folders when run backup.
Please do not tick this queue folder when you backup your system.
As we know, some Antivirus software will cause this backup fail issue.
Please ensure your Antivirus software does not scan the queue folder.
The following KB will give you more detail about it:

Hope these steps will give you some help.
If you have other concerns, just post back to let me know.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hello:
|
| In c:\program files\exchsrvr\mailroot\vsi\queue there is several mails in
| the .eml form. These mails open with OL 2006 to show from addresses that
| are like, but not exact to our users, and to addresses that are in format
| usual spam kind.
|
| These messages are "access denied" in SBS backup, and cause message that
| backup failed, when only this files not back up.
|
| What is cause of these strange messages: server is not relay, and all AV
is
| updated..
