If you use residential DSL for failover you cannot (at least for 99% of the residential DSL services) run a mail server, webserver, etc over Residential service. Furthermore you most likely cannot get a static IP for the residential service for the reasons just listed.

You're second broadband connection needs to be static and business class.

Was this due to storms in the midwest...or just a screw up by the cable company?

You said you rely on web-based apps, I hope you don't mean running on your SBS server.

Hi all,

Ths weekend, our company was stung by 'not-so-apparant' Business class
technical support. What this meant was that we had not Internet for 5 days
and being as we rely on web based applications-we were stuck!

So, management has agreed for me to purchase and implement a Dual WAN
configuration so that we can be redundant for our web apps and after looking
at a couple of posts, i would like to buy the Xincom XC-DPG502 router for
this ($120 from Buy.com). My questions is, can anyone help with the config of
this? We have a Static range from our cable company and would like to get a
Residential DSL line for failover, but was unsure of how to configure the
router to enable this (DNS, E-mail etc)?

Sorry for the long post, but i do this voluntarily for a local non-profit,
and would like to get it right first time if possible :)
