Re: Auto Refresh of Network Drives on SBS 2003

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

The issue is acctully when looking at folder on a workstation. So from
the workstation we would rename a file on the server but it does not
change till we hit f5. I am looking for a fix for this issue.

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting!

My understanding on the issue is: When you rename file, the filename does
not change until reenter the directory. If I have misunderstood your
concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Firstly, please ensure the problematical machines are in the latest hotfix
and make sure they not infected by virus.

Based the situation, I would like to provide you with some suggestions:

Step 1: Please perform a clean boot, Can the issue be reproduced?
=================================================
1. Click the "Start" and select "Run".

2. Type msconfig in the open box, and then click "OK".

3. On the "Services" tab, click to choose "Hide All Microsoft Services" and
click to choose Disable All.

4. On the Startup page, click Disable All.

5. Click "OK" to reboot your computer.

6. When you see the message, choose "Don't show this message or launch the
System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click OK.

Note: A Clean Boot will allow us to isolate any device drivers or programs
that are loading at startup that may be causing a conflict.

Step 2: Please boot the system into Safe Mode environment, Can the issue be
reproduced?
=========================================================================

1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On
a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems,
you can press the F8 key when you see the Boot Menu.

2. In "Windows Advanced Option Menu", use the arrow keys to select Safe
Mode, and then press ENTER.

3. If you are running other operating systems on the computer, click
Microsoft Windows on the list that is displayed and then press ENTER.

Step 3: Use SFC command to perform System File Check
========================================================
Note: This step may require the Windows installation CD.

1. Click Start (menu) -> Run (menu)

2. Type "CMD" (without quotation marks)

3. Type the below command

SFC /PURGECACHE
SFC /SCANONCE

The first command is used to purges the file cache and the second command
is used to scan all protected system files once at the next boot.

4. Restart your machine. System will scan all protected system files once
at the next boot.

Additional, this issue may caused by video card or video driver. Please
update the video driver or reinstall the driver. If probable, try to change
the video card. Then test this issue.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:

1. Save application event log and system event log as evt files on
problematic machines and send to my mailbox: v-ter...@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

2. Which edition of your SBS server? What about clients?

3. Does the problem appear from new install or from other time?

4. Do the problematical machines have same problem on local file?

5. Does the SBS server have same problem on local file?

6. Does the problem happen on other share folder?

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Server File Update Issue
|
| We're experiencing a hit-and-miss problem with our server.
| - When we rename a file, sometimes the name change is updated
| immediately. Sometimes we need to exit the directory folder, and
| reenter for the name to refresh.
|
| - The same issue happens when we move or copy files.
|
| It has affected everyone, but it doesn't happen every time.
