I tried to restore the backup but it didn't work (same issue) so i tried running a reinstall and it prompted me for the Trans. CD, put that in and it went like a champ. Its installed and working right now. *crosses fingers* hope it stays that way too.

It did the install, and after the 4th reboot or so (after the actuall "Setup" screen ran its course) came back to a login screen and it occurs there.

Yea, it says R2 on the Trans box... I didn't see any other SKU's, more to the point i wans't told there were any different SKU's by my vender, and didn't notice any when he showed me the webpage w/ the different ones.

You shouldn't need to upgrade to R2 to install the Transition Pack, unless you bought an R2 Transition Pack. (You need to match your TP to your actual SP/R2 level exactly.)

You didn't specify where in the process this occurred, but you should expect to have to activate when it's all over, though I thought I remembered that you had a 3 day window, normally.

Also, these suggestions before you run the TP:
=============
Before you run the Transition Pack there are a few steps you should take to ensure a smooth transiition:

1.) Do a thorough, complete, VERIFIED backup. If it isn't verified and tested, it isn't a backup, IMHO.
2.) Clean up your HD. Remove temporary files, old logs, and so forth. Run Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe)
3.) Defragment the HD. Use the built in, or use a good third party such as PerfectDisk from Raxco.
4.) Disconnect the server from the internet completely. (Easiest way is just unplug the network from the back of the server.)
5.) Stop any third party services that are running as a system account and set them to disabled or uninstall them. This includes AV, disk utilities, and any real-time monitoring programs.
6.) Remove Veritas BackupExec (see KB: 914990)
7.) Run regedit and check for the presence of the key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Small Business. If it exists, remove it.

That's it. Just make sure you have the matching TP version to your SBS version. (ie, SP1 for SP1 SBS, etc.)

Also, make sure you have media kits available for your individual server software packages. You shouldn't need them, but it's good to have, just in case.

Finally, just run the transition. Expect it to take 2+ hours, and 7 or more reboots. Even if you give it the logon password, you may get prompted the first reboot - I did in 4 or 7 transitions I did this spring. No discernable pattern to it. Once that first one completes, though, you can go grab some lunch/dinner/whatever and it should run by itself.

We have SBS Standard 2003 SP1, abd we have the Transition Pack Standard, we installed it on the server and now it is stuck in an 'You must Activate this copy with Microsoft before you can login' loop. You click Yes and it looks like it is tring to do something then dumps you back to the login screen...

Im currently restoring a backup that i did before i started this, then got to reading about it, do I need to buy the $300 upgrade to SBS Server '03 R2 before i can even install this? the paper that came with it said to make sure that you install SP1 before you run the CD but makes no meantion that you have to be running R2, (i thought that R2 had SP1 already installed on it) so Im at a loss here..

any help would be nice.. Thanks!
