Lost incoming mail

I cannot receive incoming mail.
As of last Friday I had SBS2003 (NO SP) running just fine with one NIC
behind a router with a Static IP DSL. Everything worked fine.
I decided that I should make some changes to improve security. So here
is what I all did.
1) I added a 2nd NIC (still behind the router) and used CEICW to set ip
up. I moved the DHCP from router to SBS Server. All appeared to work
fine (although I didn't test for incoming emails.)
2) I then proceeded to instal ISA that came with the original SBS2003
Premium Eddition. I then installed the Firewall clients. That all
seemed to work OK also.
3) I then installed SBS Service Pack 1 along with the updated ISA
2004.
4) I discovered I was not receiving any incoming email (probably
started at step 2 above.)
5) I was unsure about having port 25 pass through router and firewall
so I removed router and set up Server directly to ISP and re-ran
CEICW.
6) I still cannot get incoming email. I can send emails to internal
users as well as to the outside world. I can browse the internet just
fine.
7) I tied to telnet into port 25 with no success. I ran a test at
DNSstuff and get the response "Could not connect".

I think that my SMPT service is not running, although It's a little
hard to tell. I am real confused as to what settings or monitoring I
can utilize in ISA, Excnage, Etc, or when I HAVE TO STAY WITHIN SBS2003
Server Managemnet.

Is there a way to determine what is blocking port 25 or what service is
not running the way it should be?
