RE: SBS Netwk Config Wizard fails.

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that your laptop client got
error when it tries to connect to SBS domain. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:

Step 1: Confirm TCP/IP settings of client computer network adapter.

This is often caused by the incorrect network configuration on the client
computer. Mainly, it is DNS. I suggest you verify the client network
configurations and then check if this issue persists. Please try the
following:

1. Open "Properties" dialog box of the network adapter connected to the
network.

2. Open "Properties" dialog box of Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

3. Verify that the preferred DNS is pointing to the SBS server. Without
correct DNS settings, the client will not be able to query domain
information. It is better to point the default gateway to the SBS server if
it has ISA installed as your Internet gateway. This will allow the client
send the packages to the server.

4. Click "OK" to take effect and then check if this issue persists.

Step 2:

Also, this error occurs if the user account is restricted to logon to only
selected workstations. To resolve this issue remove the logon restriction
while joining the domain. Please perform the following:

1. Start Active Directory Users and Computers.

2. Expand the "My Business" OU, expand the "Users" OU, then expand the
"SBSUsers" OU

3. Display the properties of the user account you're using to join the
domain.

4. Click on the "Account" tab

5. Click the "log on to..." button and select the radio button "All
computers", Click OK twice to exit the dialog box.

6. Then test this issue.

If step 2 above does not work, please go to step 3.

Step 3: install File and Printer Sharing on XP local connection.

1. On client computer, right-click My Network Places, select Properties.

2. Right-click Local Area Connection, select Properties.

3. In Local Area Connection Properties, tick File and Printer Sharing for
Microsoft Networks

4. Click OK button.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:

1. Try to connect this laptop with SBS Server by using wired cable line,
not through wireless, what's the result?

2. Try to manually join this laptop into SBS domain, what's the result?

3. Gather 'ipconfig /all' output from SBS Server and the laptop.

4. Save XP application event log and system log as evt files and send to my
mailbox: v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| I am trying to connect wireless Win XP Pro SP2 to SBS 2K3 R2 Domain. I
| followed to the letter MS white paper on how to "Configure Wireless

fails
| at the last connection wizard with the following error:

|
| I successfully joined another wireless laptop to the domain, so I think
the
