RE: DHCP Locked Down?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

From the post, I understand you have problem about that the laptops can
lease IP address from the SBS Server successfully when you are located on
the SBS network but the laptops cannot obtain IP address from the router
when you are at home or other places.

There is no such group policy which will restrict the IP assignment of the
DHCP Server.

If this is your concern, please repost your issue in WindowsXP newsgroup or
connect your router vendor for further assistance.

This newsgroup is primarily for issues involving deployment, configuration,
consultation and troubleshooting. The reason why we recommend posting
appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and
other partners who read the newsgroups regularly can either share their
knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If there is anything else I can do for you, feel free to let me know.

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| We have just taken on a client who have a SBS 2003 server with a
| handful of XP laptops. We have an issue that we just can't seem to
| figure out. The XP laptops are all set to DHCP and when they are
| connected to the SBS network and logged into the Domain they are
| assigned IP addresses, but, when they are not connected to the SBS
| network i.e. when they have them at home hanging off their broadband
| routers, even though DHCP is still set, they don't get IP addresses.
|
| We have verified DHCP on the broadband routers with one of our laptops
| and it works fine.
|
| Is there a Group Policy setting that restricts which DHCP server the
| laptop will accept an IP address from?
|
| Or something else maybe?
|
| Thanks for any help in advance.
|
| Regards.
|
| Craig.
