Hi Lanwench,

Right, you are cheating here!

Naw. Someone had to connect the computer's physical components together &
plug it all in anyway, right? If it's a new computer, they have to boot it
up. It takes 'em only a minute to set an administrator password & enable RD.

I do remote workstation setups for clients all the time -they plug
in the new machine so it gets an IP address, and then I walk them
through enabling remote desktop. I then log in remotely as the local
admin account, over RD - and then run connectcomputer. Then I log
into the domain on the remote machine & install all the software,
etc.

Default a fresh install doesn't have RD enabled, so you can't RD to
it. That is what I had meant to say originally but it didn't come out
at all, guess I had needed a more stiff drink first ;-)

Lanwench, you are contradicting yourself ;-)

Am I? I don't think so - although it's possible I've misunderstood
the OP!

You can't log into the domain on this computer til it's been joined
to the domain, tho.

I can log onto the client computer using the admin account, but
then when trying to add the user to the computer, i get another
message "the trust relationship between this computer and the
domain controller failed." or something along those line.

So, how do i set up her client workstation (logged on as her, i
presume)

Log into the workstation over RDP, using the built-in administrator
account on it. Run connectcomputer from there. Then when done, you
can log back in unquote

How are you supposed to run connectcomputer if a computer is not
joined yet?

But you *can't* run connectcomputer on a computer that is already
joined to the domain....only on a standalone/workgroup member
workstation.

Have another coffee dear ;-)

Coffee? Isn't it getting closer to cocktail hour??

I manage a small SBS2003 Network via remote desktop connection to
the server. (I'm in SoCal, Server is in Arizona) Until now, i've
only had a few users, both with administrator privelages (they're
the owners of the company) so never a need to make a hierachary,
etc.

I hope you don't mean domain admin privileges - !

Now, i need to add a non-admin (the receptionist) user to the
domain, which i can do via Server management. I add her to the
domain okay (so i think) Now, i have to get her computer setup.

We have a client computer ready for her - it's on and connected to
the network, and i can acess it via RDP from the Server. (So, I
RDP to the Server, then RDP again to the client machines in the
office . . . maybe hoaky, but it works.)

Yes, that's how I do it too.

But, I have to setup this client workstation with email, install
certain
apps for her, etc. When i try to RDP to this workstation using
the domain login info, it reports back "The local policy of this
system does not allow you to logon interactively"

Log into the workstation over RDP, using the built-in administrator
account on it. Run connectcomputer from there. Then when done, you
can log back in as a domain account - after remotely managing the
PC fromServer Management to add the domain user (or the RWW Users
group if the acct is a member), to the local "Remote Desktop
Users" group on a workstation. Then go to town....the user will
have admin rights on the PC if you assigned the user to the
computer when setting it up. You can remove the user from the
local admins group after you're done.

from a RDP'd connection? What other options do i have? She
starts workign tomorrow, and i don't want to spend 2 hrs on the
phone stepping her through email setup, etc. (there's 2 other
apps that i have to install for her too.) (The boss doesn't want
me to spend 2 hrs on the phone w/ her either ;)
