Hi,
Thanks for posting here.
From your post, my understanding on this issue is: you get the followingerror message when you send the email to external:
==============================
<myserver.mydomain.local #5.1.8 smtp;550 5.1.8 invalid/host-not-in-DNS
return address not allowed>
==============================
If I am off base, please feel free to let me know.
Based on my experience, I would provide the following action plan.
Action Plan
=========
Step 1
=====
First of all, please re-run the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection
Wizard (CEICW) to configure Internet e-mail. To do so:
1. Click Start, click Server Management.
2. Click To Do List and then click "Connect to the Internet".
3. Click Next, select "Do not change connection type" and click Next.
4. Select Enable firewall and click Next.
5. Ensure E-mail is selected and Click Next. Go through the steps until the
Internet E-mail page shows, select "Enable Internet e-mail" and click Next.
6. Select either "Use DNS to route e-mail" or "Forward all e-mail to e-mail
server at your ISP". If you select the latter, enter the ISP SMTP server.
Click Next.
7. Specify to receive e-mail using one or both of the following methods:
- POP3 Mailboxes
- Exchange
Click Next.
8. Enter your e-mail domain name and click Next. The e-mail domain name
should match the mail exchanger (MX) resource record maintained at your
ISP. This must be a registered Internet domain name.
9. Go through the steps to finish the wizard.

Step 2
=====
Since you configured your Exchange server to forward emails to your ISP,
let's first use Telnet tool to confirm whether you can submit an email to
your ISP's SMTP virtual server. Please run Telnet tool on your SBS 2003
server and connect to the Smart Host you configured on your SBS server.
Then, try to send an email. Is it successful? For more information about
how to use telnet, please refer to the following article.

Please make a screenshot of the CMD window and send it to my working
address at v-suxia@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Step 3
=====
Please check the SmallBusiness SMTP connector Properties. On the General
tab, please check the FQDN or IP in the Forward all mail through this
connector to the following smart hosts option. Is it set correctly? Please
use IP address in the option to exclude DNS causes.
Step 4
=====
Please enable Message Tracking in your Exchange server and trace to see how
the messages delivered in your Exchange server.
a) Enable Message Tracking on. For more information, please refer to
the following KB article.
257265 XCON: General Troubleshooting for Exchange 2000 Transport
Issues
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=257265
b) Please send an outgoing email to reproduce this issue.
c) Search for the message in Message Tracking center.
d) Double click to open it, make a screenshot of Message Tracking center
and send it to my working address at v-stezhu@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Please let me know the results so that I can provide further assistance on
this problem. I am looking forward to your reply.
Have a nice day!
Best Regards,
Steven Zhu
