RE: VBScript: Remote Desktop Disconnect

Hello Nihat,

Thank you for posting here.

From your post, I understand that you can not connect client or server from
RWW. If I am off base, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest that we try the following steps:

Step 1:
-------------
Usually, this issue occurs when communication is blocked or the proper
services are not listening on certain ports. Ensure that TCP port 4125
outbound is not blocked on the client or the LAN. Take a look at KB article
828053. This article applies to situations where ISA is guarding outbound
access to the internet. To be clear, this does not refer to ISA guarding
inbound access on a SBS 2003 server.

828053 ISA Server prevents connection to a remote desktop when you connect
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=828053

Step 2:
-------------------
Ensure the Windows Firewall or another firewall is not blocking access to
TCP port 3389 or remote desktop on the computer you wish to connect to.
1. Open Control Panel, click Security Center, and then click Windows
Firewall.
2. On the Exceptions tab, an exception for Remote Desktop should be listed
and checked. If not, add a port for TCP port 3389.

Step 3:
-----------------------
Ensure that TCP port 4125 inbound is not blocked on the SBS 2003 server
hosting RWW or on another firewall device between the SBS 2003 server and
the internet.

Step 4:
-------------------------
If the Remote Desktop feature is enabled and you still cannot connect to
the computer from within the local network, check to see if it is running
on TCP port 3389.

1. On the computer you wish to connect to, run regedit and navigate to this
key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal
Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp

2. Find the PortNumber subkey. It should be set to 0x00000D3D, hexadecimal
for 3389. If it is not, modify the port number in Hex to D3D and save the
new value.

3. Reboot this computer after making the registry change.

Step 5:
--------------------------
If the Remote Desktop feature is enabled and configured to run on TCP port
3389, but you still cannot connect to the computer from within the local
network, check to see if the correct service is running on the correct
port.

1. On the computer you wish to connect to, click Start, click Run, type
cmd, and then click OK.

2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
netstat -aon | find ":3389"
You receive results that are similar to the following:
TCP IP_Address:Port IP_Address:Port LISTENING Process_Identifier

3. Right-click the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.

4. Click the Processes tab, and then click Select Columns on the View menu.

5. Click to select the PID (Process Identifier) check box, and then click
OK.

6. On the Processes tab, locate the service that corresponds to the process
ID that was returned by the netstat command.

7. Restart the service that corresponds to this process, unless the process
is svchost.exe. For example, if the process is spoolsv.exe, restart the
Print Spooler service. To do this, follow these steps:
1) Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
2) Double-click the service that you want to restart, make sure that the
name of the process appears in the Path to executable box on the General
tab, and then click Cancel.
3) Right-click the service, and then click Restart.
4) If you are prompted to also restart one or more dependent services,
click Yes.
5) If you would like to prevent the service you found from taking TCP port
3389 after a reboot, you can make it dependent on TermService, by following
the steps in article 193888.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information for
further investigation:

Please capture a screenshot on the message when you try to connect from RWW
and send to my mailbox: v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope these steps will give you some help. Please let me know the results so
that I can provide further assistance on this problem. I am looking forward
to your reply. Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
