Hi David,
Thanks for posting here.
From your post, my understanding on this issue is: one user cannot dial-inHead Office with unknown username and password error. But she can dial-up
ISP and then connect Head Office via VPN. If I am off base, please feel
free to let me know.
First at all, please make sure the user have correctly dial-in permission,
refer to the following steps to check it:
1. Open Active directory users and computers, open user's properties.
2. Click Dial-in, please confirm the "Remote Access Permission" be set
"Allow access".
Based on the information I have now, Please help me collect the following
information in order to narrow down this issue:
1. Please use this problem user dial-in the RAS Server from the other
remote client, does this issue disappear?
2. please capture the screenshot of the "unknown username and password"
error message and send it to me at: v-stezhu@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
3. Please help me to collect RasDiag log.
a. Rasdiag.exe is a tool that can be found in Windows XP Support Tools, you
may install Windows XP Support Tools from Windows XP CD or download from
the following link:

b. After installing Windows XP Support Tools on the VPN client machine, run
rasdiag.exe.
c. Wait for a moment until you see the following message:
STATUS: Waiting for you to REPRO and press the space bar in this console.
d. Try to connect to the VPN server three times to reproduce this issue.
e. Make the command prompt window running rasdiag.exe the active window and
press SPACEBAR. Pressing SPACEBAR causes Rasdiag to stop capturing
information and write it to a compressed file with a .rdg extension. The
name of the file is the date and time it was created.
f. After the generation, a folder will be open, and then send the .rdg file
to me at v-stezhu@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
For more information about the Remote Access Service Diagnostics Tool,

Please let me know the above information so that I can provide the further
assistance on this issue. I am looking forward to your reply.
Have a nice day.
Best Regards,
Steven Zhu
