Re: ftp versus WebDav

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

My SBS2003 SP1 domain has two member servers with very large raid storage
that is by far under used. This is my domain for my own company. Total users
<5.

My other clients currently store a backup of their 500 g business
information on a stand alone w2003 server that is also underused.
They currently FTP to the w2003 and make minor deletions and additions.
Mostly likely not more than 40 m a week.

These users just need a space to plunk down data for offsite storage.
I thought that I might use WebDav on one w2003 member server on my SBS2003
and eliminate the standalone FTP site but keep a good level of security.

I was looking for comments, which is more secure FTP or WebDav?

So the stand alone Win2k3 server is not part of your SBS domain?
If thats the case, I'd keep it that way..
Why would you want to allow non-domain clients access to your domain?

Remote users like to save files from their own workstations that are not
part of my domain (they are a different client). Currently they FTP to a
Windows 2003 standalone server. I am trying to make better use of my
servers.

I could just use RWW and let the users connect their own hard drives and
transfer but there are a couple that I would like to limit to just the
two way file transfer like FTP.

Back and forth for what purpose?

So I have a need to move data back and forth. SBS2003 SP1. Two other
W2003 servers available. My remote users like RWW.

Any comments on using WebDav instead of FTP for file transfers? One
less port open on the router. I could link it right from the
www.myserver.com/remote default page....
