Just fair warning LW, and unless you have darts for some cricket, SSO
(set stalking off) till the EOD. ;-)
End of Days? When did you join a millenarian cult? Do you get a special cool

Pppppht.

If you don't have enough time to send a shutdown command to less
than 100 remote workstations, I really wouldn't expect SBS and
Exchange to finish a clean shutdown either.
Of course your ability to shutdown the remote workstations depends
upon both the workstations having backup power as well as any and
all network hardware so your script or simple (shutdown -f -s -m
\\computername ) command is received and processed by the
workstation.
ding ding ding!
Yes. You can *issue* the command with time to spare. Just sayin' the
machines may not complete the job before the server shuts down.
Now stop stalking me. Just because you're the founder of the Lanwench
Obsessive Fan Club, doesn't mean you get to hog *all* the bandwidth.
:-D
True enough....I suppose the right and proper way to do it (if it
is an APC UPS) is to install the mangement card in the smart slot
on the UPS and then run the the Powerchute Agent on each
workstation. You could manage it via the Powerchute Server
Mangement Console. Of course I'm making a lot of assumptions here.....I
know there are
many other UPS manufacturers other than APC.....well, a few at
least! "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]"

Apart from the network broadcast, you could tell your Powerchute
software on the server to run a batchfile when reverting to
battery power. In this batch file you could use psexec.exe
(www.sysinternals.com) to run the shutdown command on all your
clients! A bit messy, but it would work.
Ah, that's good advice, thanks - although it's also possible that
there won't be enough time for this to complete successfully
before the server goes bye-bye.

Hello,
I have a network with SBS2000 and about 15 XP clients. In this
network I have a UPS system that is connected to the eletrical
system and to the server. If the power fails all computers
remain powered. When this happens I want SBS2000 to send a
message to all connected users so they close all they are
doing and shutdown their machines. After, let's say, 3
minutes, if the computers arent shutdown I want SBS2000 to
automatically shut them down to preserve the UPS batteries for
SBS2000. How can I do this?
Thanks
The UPS software that came with your device should have the
option to broadcast a message to all computers in the domain
(provided they have the messenger service running). At least,
APC software does this. Regarding remote shutdown, not sure how
you'd do this - you can certainly *do* remote shutdowns, but I
don't know how you'd trigger that automatically.
