Re: Cable Connection Question - Difference?

I've never heard of "back-to-back DMZ" before. I believe your friend
was referring to the fact that you are daisy-chaining two routers. It
would take a lot of work to get a machine on your private LAN #2 to be
NATted to the WWW.
--> cable device (forwarding ISP's network)
--> Linksys WAN (ISP's network)
--> [Linksys routing]
--> Linksys LAN (private LAN#1)
--> SBS WAN (private LAN#1)
--> [ISA routing]
--> SBS LAN (private LAN#2)
If you are using ISA as a firewall/gateway, why use the Linksys router?
It's not a matter of "where do I plug this thing in?". You should
decide what you want to do _first_, then design the network
accordingly.
Your router(s) must be configured correctly before you start plugging
in cables...especially when they lead to the public internet.
What exactly are you trying to do with the network in question? On
which router(s) is NAT configured, and how? What are the relationships
between your two LANs?

have a question about the difference between the following cable
connections on (2) separate, unrelated networks:
Network A = Windows Server Std Edition--(Server has 2 NICs, clients
have static IPs, no DHCP anywhere, NAT configured)--cables are plugged
in as follows:
Internal NIC-plugged into main switch
External NIC-plugged into Linksys Router
Linksys router Internet port plugged into ISP's cable modem
Clients plugged into main switch
Network B = SBS 2000 using ISA Server 2000 Server has 2 NICs, clients
have static IPs, no DHCP anywhere, )--cables are plugged in as follows:
Secondly, please help me verify my cable connections:
Internal NIC-plugged into main switch
External NIC-plugged into main switch
Linksys router Internet port plugged into ISP's cable modem
Linksys router Ethernet port plugged into main switch
Clients plugged into main switch
Basically, can/should Network A be setup the same as Network B??. It
seems if I did that, I had problems with clients connecting. Someone
commented that with Network A, I had created a Back-to-Back DMZ, but I
do not know what that means.
Thanks
