If you plan on using the two 147GB drives in a RAID 1 mirror, you can
install SBS on one drive. Leave the other untouched. Many controllers
will create a mirror of an existing drive...steps vary by the
manufacturer and model.
Check with your HP rep or reseller for the details on the RAID card,
but generally it shouldn't be a problem.
Also, why not buy a new RAID controller, and get a refund back from the
seller. It doesn't take long to get one. And, you won't be
inheireting another used piece of equipment.
BTW, CDW.com has the 642 in stock for $530. 6402 for $760. You could
have it before the weekend.
Also, a new 5u rackmount (382195-001), with 642 and 2x147GB would cost
$3,800, and would ship immediately. Give them an extra day, and they
will assemble all parts from the same order...RAM, controllers, power
supplies, drives.
Best of luck with the new machine.

Bought a HP proliant ML340 on ebay for $4470. On the add it was saying it
included raid controller 642. When delivered it didn't have raid controller
card, called the seller and he said it was a mistake as he copied the
specification from the hp site, but later he said he will order raid card but
will take some time. I need to build the SBS server this weekend anyhow,
cannot wait for another two weeks for the raid card and we cannot purchase
another raid card for extra $700. What can I do? Is it possible to install
the sbs server now and later use raid controller. The server has 2 scsi 147gb
hard drives, a tape drive and two 3ghz xeon processors.
Thank you all in advance.
