Re: Repartition Server without Reinstall?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Thanks to all that replied.
I sucessfully made the changes using Acronis.
I didn't do it from within Windows, I made the bootable CD ROM.
It was smooth and fast. Of course I had a full backup ready just in case.

I guess doing it from a boot disk would work with most other partition management software.

Thanks to all that replied. i'm really happy about this site again, it's in tip-top shape :-)

Harry,

I have successfully repartitioned my SBS2003 SP1 server with a raid1 setup using Acronis Disk Director. I installed the software in windows, took some space from one of the partitions and distributed it to the others. After telling the program how to distribute the space, it asked for a reboot and made the changes prior to windows loading. Great product, I would recomend it to anyone.

I have searched and read the previous posts about doing this.
However I couldn't find any post from someone that has done this on a Hardware RAID5 setup.

System is as follows:
SBS 2003 Premium With SP1 and all other Patches applied.
Dell Hardware.

3x33.8GB HDs in Hardware RAID-5 Array

Partitioned as:
Drive Total Free
C: 10GB .25
D: 40GB 20.2
E: 17.6GB 10.5

I would like to take 5GB from both D: & E: and give them to C:

I understand that the only MS supported way to do this is to Backup, Reinstall with desired new partitions and Restore. However I understand that there are third party apps that can do this.

Can anyone who has successfully used one of these apps on a similar setup please share the details.
Free or Trial versions of software are preferred as this is a once off thing.

I have a copy of Partition Magic 8. I don't understand why this wouldn't work (but had read that people say it won't)? It can run pre the OS booting, and I thought the hardware RAID controller would take care of itself.

Help/ Advice greatly appreciated.
