Re: Liteweight needs confirmation: SBS config of Mulitple NIC

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Sorry but this doesn't make sense unless you are trying telling me that the
configuration you are posting is the customer side (inside) of the router.
In that case the router uses one and your SBS WAN uses the other. So if your
router has 69.x.x.1 you have to use 69.x.x.2 on your SBS WAN and use 69.x.x1
as the gateway.

I would recommend you put another router in between your cisco and your SBS
WAN. A small DLink or LinkSys will do. The WAN address of that router would
be 69.x.x.2 with SN 255.255.255.252 and GW 69.x.x.1. For the LAN side of
that router you can use 192.168.10.1 or any other subnet that is considered
a private subnet with a SN of 255.255.255.0. In that case your SBS WAN would
be 192.168.10.2 (or any other IP in that subnet) with SN of 255.255.255.0
and GW 192.168.10.1.

That setup will give you a bit more protection and also will enable you to
place other components outside your company LAN. Kind of a poor man's DMZ.
This only is true if you have ISA installed on your SBS. If you don't have
the SBS Premium you have to get a firewall and put that between your cisco
router and your SBS.

After you have configured your WAN NIC you need to run the CEICW.

The WAN NIC on the SBS server is wrong. It needs to be on the same subnet
as
your Cisco's internal interface. Do you know what that is? From the Cisco
subnet I can see that you have 2 usable public IPs. Did your ISP assign
2?

Claus -

The ISP set up the router with 2 IP addresses - one for intranet
addressing (69.xx.xx.1, subnet 255.255.255.252) and the other for
internet (69.xx.xx.2, subnet ??)

In case my description was not clear, I have the following addresses
configured:

These 2 items are connected directly via RJ45 cable:
Cisco Router - IP 69.xx.xx.1, subnet 255.255.255.252
SBS NIC2 - IP 192.168.254.1, subnet 255.255.255.252

SBS NIC1 - IP 10.26.13.2, subnet 255.255.255.0
- connected to the intranet switch

Jon
