Re: SQL 2005 won't upgrade using R2 discs

You don't upgrade.. you uninstall the old SQL and install the new one
Read the readme file

www.sbslinks.com/sql2005.htm

Been there, done that.

Hi,

I upgraded our SBS 03 SP1 box fine to SBS 03 R2 with SQL 2005. I'm now at a clients trying to do the same, should be similar configuration. I'm now at the point of upgrading to SQL 2005 and are following the install docs that come with the R2 discs.

If I look at the installed instances it shows the following:

Version 8.00.761
Standard Edition

SQL Server Desktop Edition (BKUPEXEC)
Version 8.00.761
Desktop Engine

SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSFW)
Version 8.00.761
Desktop Engine

SQL Server Desktop Engine (SBSMonitoring)
Version 8.00.1100
Desktop Engine

SQL Server (Sharepoint)
Type: Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Version 8.00.761
Standard Edition

SQL Server (WSUS)
Type: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (WSUS)
Version 8.00.1100

It says "The following components that you chose to install are already installed on the machine." If I click the details button it says:

Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.

Edition check:
