btw, "we" are not *forced* into using SBS Update services. You can install
WSUS v2 just like everywhere else. And when V3 RTM's in a short time, *many*
are going to want the new features offered over the convenience of
"integrated".

Let's face it WSUS isn't rocket science, and V3's interface is much nicer
than the *any* V2 implementation.

Oh, and the cost is the same ($0).

Some of us can live quite nicely with the settings and don't need to have
categories for our Ferrari laptops :-)

Actually, I DIS-agree with those who say R2 isn't worth it!

Having said that, that does NOT mean that it may NOT be a tough sell.
But as someone who has beta tested both R2 and the prior version and who
bitterly complained during the beta about WSUS in the prior to R2 beta -
I can almost laugh now, back then I was really incensed that MS could
foist anything so shoddy as WSUS on us - I think R2 is worth it if for
NO other reason than R2 does a great job of managing the updates.

Hell, I can remember the fun with WSUS v1 whatever and trying to figure
out WHICH patches to approve... surely to god you don't want to foist
that poorly planned and implemented version of WSUS on anyone?

WSUS v1 is long dead and buried. WSUS v2 is the current product, and SBS
R2 piggy-backs on that. I found the SBS R2 modified WSUS to be even more
of a pain than plain WSUS (v2) because it follows the
bad-old-SBS-does-it-differently approach, such that you can't safely and
reliably manipulate WSUS outside the SBS R2 consoles without running the
risk of breaking the SBS R2 consoles.

Please take this comment for what it's worth; I'm not trying to start a
flame war...

For those who haven't seen R2 but are using WSUS v1 and think it's not
much different... CHECK it out dudes! There is no comparison at all
here.

Anyone running WSUS v1 needs their head examining. All should be using
WSUS v2, which is better but still a pig. SBS R2 doesn't really make it
any better, just bad in different ways.

R2 ROCKS and I suspect MS is betting MOST people will go for R2 because
it does patching SO well... it is SOOOOOOOOO simple... heck I could go
on and probably have too long already... <VBG>

If your SBS environment consists solely of your SBS and some XP SP2
workstations, maybe. Anything more interesting than this and the SBS R2
WSUS implementation shows its limitations very quickly.
