Susan, Steve and Crina,

Thank you all for you replys. Yes, I did allow the accounting tech to
remove the Share point services, because he said he needed the full
version
of SQL to run the accounting program, and the version we were running
would
not handle the size of the database that would be generated. They were
removed from the Add/Remove programs list and I really thought I could
simply
add it back in.

After the "full" SQL server was loaded, the accounting database was
installed, and for a short time all was well. Then the network began to
go
south, as workstations began to "lose" the server. (Friday afternoon)

Arriving early Monday am, I discovered that if I turned the SQL server
off,
I could see the server on the network, but was told I did not have
permissions to use the resource. When the SQL was running, the Server
dissapeared from sight. So I thoughy it had something to do with the SQL
Server permissions. After running from Server to Workstation for 2 hours
and
following kb829114 with no luck, I called Microsoft and from 10:00 am
(est)
until 8:45 pm, a wonderful technician followed the tech article I had
followed, (with same results re: sharepoint reinstallition, not working)
he
and his team went deap and remove all traces of the installation and
reinstall a GOOD sharepoint and SQL server. Turns out we had several
issues.

1. Firewall on each workstation was preventing the server from seeing the
clients.
2. NAT issues caused with the installation of the "full" SQL
server/services,
3. Corrupt installer. (still not sure if this was from the internet, or
the Accounting Team.
4. Incorrect version of SQL SP4 (took it from the internet, and should
have
used the one on the cd.)
5. A person with only a bit more expierience with SQL than I have (next
to
none) and could only setup the SQL if he did the installation. I have
installed several packages that use the SQL, and have not had a problem
before this.

Thankfully I have an employee in my office who was able to attach the
databases to the clean installation of SQL WITH the Sharepoint services
running, and the Accounting installation went ahead as planned.

Again, thank you for your response. I know I will have another posting
soon.

Vickie

Hi Vickie,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand
that

greatly appreciated!

From your description, I understand the issue to be: you can not see SBS
server from My Network Places after you removing SharePoint service and
installing SQL 2000 on SBS Standard edition. If I have misunderstood
your
concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

To narrow down the problem, would you please help me collect the
following
information?

1. How do you remove SharePoint services?
2. You said "I turned off the SQL services, and restarted, and could
"see"
the server, but it tells me I don't have permission to use the server",
can
you post the detailed error message you received?
3. Does the situation occur on internal network or when you access SBS
from
external network?
4. Can you access shares on SBS?
5. Can you access internal clients from SBS?
6. Are there any errors in Event Log?
7. Are you using Domain Admin to access the SBS?

Currently please try to reinstall SharePoint services to see how thing
goes:

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.
