RE: Backup failed!

Thank you very much for your response Terence. After completing all three
steps (as well as pointing the backup wizard to the correct folder) the
backup worked with me initiating it manually. I will see tonight if the
backup will run under the schedule that I have setup for it.
Thanks again.

Hello Peter,.
Thanks for using the SBS Newsgroups.
Step 1
1. Run Backup Configuration Wizard, and select "Do not Use Small Business
Server Backup". It will delete the wrong backup script.
2. Run Backup Configuration Wizard again to new a clean backup script.
Once, the problem is not resolved.
Step 2
This issue may occur if the SBS backup selection script (Program
Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup\Small Business Backup
Script.bks) created by the Backup Configuration Wizard contains references
to the Exchange Recovery Storage Group.
If you find the file Small Business Backup Script.bks, please open the with
Notepad, you will see
JET SERVERNAME\Microsoft Information Store\Recovery Storage Group\
Backup Configuration Wizard should not add Recovery Storage Group to the
backup selection script. When Recovery Storage Group is added to the
Exchange first, then you run the Backup Configuration Wizard, the Recovery
Storage Group will be added to the script. However, NTbackup is not able to
back it up either via the script or directly via the NTbackup GUI.
To resolve this issue, use NTbackup to remove Recovery Storage Group
reference from the backup selection script. To do so:
1. Start -> Run -> NTBackup -> Advanced Mode -> Backup tab -> Job -> Load
Selections.
2. Select Small Business Backup Script.bks.
3. Click OK on the error message:
Some invalid selections found in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small
Business Server\Backup\Small Business Backup Script.bks.
4. Job -> Save Selections
In Server Management -> Backup, click Backup Now, does it fail?
If it does not work after step2
Step 3
Send the files Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\Backup\Small Business Backup Script.bks and Program Files\Microsoft
Windows Small Business Server\Support\backup logs\sbsbackuplogXX.log to me.
Hope this helps.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or if you need
further assistance.
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| “http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=18414â€;
|
| Backup fails, reporting "'Script.bks' file not found."
| Cause: The Exchange Information Store is not running.
| Solution: Start the Exchange Information Store.
| To start the Exchange Information Store
| 1. Click Start, click Run, and then type Services.msc.
| 2. In the details pane, right-click Microsoft Exchange Information Store,
| and then click Start.
| Cause:
| • A folder explicitly marked to be included in the backup is not on the
| system.
| • The Small Business Backup Script has been deleted or is corrupted.
| • The UNC path you are backing up to does not exist or is inaccessible.
| Solution: Re-run the Backup Configuration Wizard from the Backup snap-in
in
| Server Management, accepting the defaults to reset.
|
|
| There seems to be two places where backup scripts are being stored on my
| computer:
| 1) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup
| 2) C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application
| Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data
|
| I am not sure which one I should be concerned with ???
|
| I have also modified these files manually to only include the C: drive
and
| System State files to eliminate the possibility of the backup trying to
find
| non-existing folders/files.
|
| Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
|
| Peter
