Re: Cannot log in to Server (password not changed)

Hello Joel, Claus and Anna,

The problem is resolved. I must have inserted a space before Administrator
because I retyped the log-in and password and it let me in. Thanks for your
time and comments and sorry to trouble you with what turned out to be a
simple (and self-inflicted) problem.

Regards,

Stuart

Stuart, don't quote me on this, but I remember reading about some users that
had this problem when they installed R2. If I remember correctly, all that
was necessary was to try logging in with "domain\Administrator" as oppsed to
just "Administrator". It can't hurt to try.
Good luck.

The password doesn't change on its own. I assume that you verified that
the CAPs aren't on. The other option is that you changed the name of the
administrator (it is recommended to do so because it increases your
security as a potential hacker has to figure out not only the password but
also the username).
If neither one of these 2 assumptions are right, you have to either use a
boot cd with a password tool to change the password or you have to rebuild
the box.

I recent posted a question and the response enabled me to sort the issue
for
which I am grateful.

I have another (probably much bigger) problem upon which I would
appreciate
feedback:
I have been in the process of setting up Windows Small Business Server
2003
R2. I have been working through the 'To Do' list and had almost reached
the
end. I had got to the point where I had added two client computers and
all
seemed to work fine; much to my relief. I was viewing various screens on
the
server related to the next stage; setting up Exchange. I HAD NOT CHANGED
ANY
SETTINGS.

I use a Unitek UPS and some weeks ago had installed the software and
connected the UPS via the USB cable. The server found the UPS and I
could
see the level of charge in the batteries in the 'POWERCHECK' utility and
the
system status. I could also see the UPS was 'Connected'. The only thing
that didn't seem right was when I cut the mains power and the UPS cut in,
it
was meant to trigger the closing of Windows, but it was not - even though
it
sensed the cutting of the power. I didn't think too much of it because
otherwise it all seemed fine.

I noticed a day ago that the Server was saying the UPS was 'Disconnected'
when I could clearly see it was not. I thought that if I reboot the
server
it would re-establish the connection and that's when my current problems
started.

On starting up, I received a dialog box saying, "At least one service or
driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the
event
log for details". There was an "OK" box to click. I clicked the box and
proceeded to log in as the Administrator. I entered my password, but go
the
message, "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and
domain are correct, then type your password again". I did, but got the
same
message. I had not changed my password at all.

I tried re-booting the system (several times) but the message was the
same.
I tried un-plugging the UPS, but again the same message.

That is the current situation. I mention the matter of the UPS in case
it
is relevant.

Can anyone please offer advice as to how I can log in or what I should do
next?

Thanks in anticipation.

Stuart
