Re: SBS 2003: Archive bit not set after changing file

Dear Customer,
Thanks for your update.
As I know, the archive bit should be set regardless if this is the server
console or client mapping.
To isolate the problem, would you please help me collect the following
information?
1. Is the archive bit correctly set from every client workstation?
2. Does this issue occur if it maps the drive from another machine?
3. How you modified the file?
Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| Hi Crine
|
| Thanks and sorry for the delay in answering! I am using a local (Client
| based) backup up program (robocopy with the /m attribute) to backup
| files on a network drive (from our server) to my local client. As I
| want backup only changed files (to reduce network load) I need the
| archive bit to indicate, if the file has been changed.
|
| Now I found out, that if I change a file on the network drive from my
| client computer, the archive bit is not set, so the file will not be
| copied. If I use the server console to change the file, the archive bit
| is set.
|
| That's the problem - why this behaviour?
|
| Uli
|
| PS: I am leavin for holiday tomorrow for one week, no hurry nedeed, but
| I would appreciate any answer.
