Re: 'does not match the existing scope' error at install!!

I guess I jump in here. Don't get frustrated, doesn't help solving the
problem. Here is what I would do:

First give the second NIC a static IP in a different subnet (i.e. one from
the subnet your router will be on when you connect).
Second, stop the DHCP service on your SBS, take a laptop that is set to use
DHCP, plug it into the switch and start it up. After it's up, do an
ipconfig/all on the cmd window. if you see an IP address that starts with
169 there is no DHCP server accessable on that network. If you see a
different IP you should also see the IP address of the DHCP that is
supplying it.

As I stated earlier this is a brand new install. I didn't setup anything
manual except here is a thought...

I am using the 'Dell PowerEdge Installation and Server Management CD' to
configure and install my new server. In the initial dialogs prior to
copying
files from the SBS cd's, the Dell cd prompts me to give the 2 nics IP's. I
was only setting the LAN nic ip, ie 10.10.1.1. The INET one I left as the
default, 'Use dhcp.' Although there is NO dhcp server ANYWHERE, could this
actually be causing my problem? Maybe I should try giving the INET nic an
ip
also and since there is nothing plugged up to the nic that shouldn't open
me
up to any problems, correct?

Nothing is plugged into the switch except my server using the LAN eth
port.

Dell PowerEdge 1600SC
2 Intel PRO gigabit eths
Dell PowerConect 24 port unmanaged switch.

The 1394 connection and the INET nic are disabled while I run the
'continue
setup.'

Here is an ipconfig ...

Microsoft Windows [Version 5.2.3790]
(C) Copyright 1985-2003 Microsoft Corp.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig /all
Windows IP Configuration

Any way for me to tell WHERE setup is seeing another dhcp server? or what
its ip config is?

A serial port modem wouldnt be seen as an ip device would it? Im pulling
straws here!

The INET nic does not show up in the ipconfig because I disabled
everything
but the LAN nic. And like I also stated previously there is only one eth
cable plugged into my server and into my switch; the one connected to the
LAN
nic.

150% stumped and getting frustrated! :)

Thanks,

Chris

This is brand new install on a clean server.

After completeing the preliminary steps (Adding new data partitions,
etc),
I
start the 'Continue Setup' script on the desktop. After giving it my
desired
lan ip address, 10.10.1.1 and clicking next this dialog box pops up:

"The IP address specified for the local network adapter does not match
the
existing scope on your DHCP server, which may result in the scope
becoming
unusable. This may result in client connectivity issues. It is
recommended
that you use an IP address that is within the range of the existing DHCP
scope."
OK or Cancel

Did you manually install DHCP Server on the server (via the Manage My
Server or Add/Remove Windows Components applets)?
