Hi Gregg -
Yes, the SBS backup will backup whatever MSDE instances are on the box (assuming of course that you've selected to backup the directories on the server where the databases live)

Claus,
I appreciate you responding, but it did not answer my question regarding MSDE instances.
Now that I re-read my post, it may not have been clear that the question relates to the ESC MSDE database **after** it gets moved to the server. In other words, once ESC is moved off of the XP workstation and is running on the server, I want to know if the SBS backup configured from Server Management will back up all MSDE instances on the server or only the ones for SBS itself?
Perhaps I should have finished my post with, "I want to make sure the ESC MSDE database gets backed up every night **after I have installed ESC on the server and removed it from the workstation.**"

If you have enough space you should backup everything. Just remember that - if you store those backups on one of the hard drives (either to copy them to tapes later or to keep a separate copy for safety) to exclude that folder from the backup.
If you want to backup something that is on another box, I would recommend to share a folder on the server and schedule a backup on the workstation to the shared folder. Make sure that backup finishes before the SBS backup starts and include that folder in the SBS backup.

On an SBS 2003 Standard R2 server, will the SBS backup configured from Server Management back up all MSDE instances on the server or only the ones for SBS itself?
I have a client who wants to move a PeachTree/ESC dispatching database off of their XP Pro workstation and onto the server. The PeachTree database is on the server, but ESC uses an MSDE database located on the XP station (their old server was Linux). I want to make sure the ESC MSDE database gets backed up every night.
Thank you!
Gregg Hill
