Thanks, we'll see how it goes tomorrow. It'll be on of: the data moves OK and can be used; the biz owner looks at the web version; or I contact you ;-).

BTW, after set the thing up as a service, I was clicking around in the ADP subfolders and *bingo* a new service was set up automatically ;-/. So I undid what I did earlier. I dunno why the ADP installer couldn't have clicked there ;-).

Absolutely! the HRIS component I was involved in implementing shared the Centura SQLbase DB and I always had them set it up as a service as opposed to running a console window

I might still have a contact or two if I can help

Yeah, thanks for the link, Cris. I'm going to take it up with the biz owner tomorrow.

In the meantime, just in case he has a reason to stay with the existing setup - I used instsrv/srvany from the windows resource kit to load the Centura SQL app as a service on the SBS. (this is where the ADP installer bombs on a DC). So I'm guessing now that I have that done, I'll be able to move the data over and things will be fine.

BTW, running the app as a service is totally supported by Centura.

Are there any amongst us who use ADP PC/Payroll, and have the data on their SBS server?

The database is SQLBase 7.5.1, and ADP supports the installation on W2k3 server, but not on a DC. The ADP installer bombs, because of permissions issues.

I'm fairly sure this can be quite easily worked around, but will have to be done outside the scripted installation so appropriate security/permissions can be set for the SQLBase app. Unfortunately, ADP isn't much help.

Perhaps someone else has already determined the steps to get it running?
