Re: server 2003 standard domain user local rights

Ok, I've done that, and I can now log in fine with domain user account and
install programs. I cannot see, however, where it has added the domain user
account to the Standard Server 2003 and given any local rights.

Although that part worked...on the Standard 2003 server, I still cannot add
this as an additional domain controller. When I am using the Active
Directory Installation Wizard and when it asks for the network credentials
(username/pass/domain name) is where I get stuck. It tells me that "An
Active Directory domain controller for the domain DI-COMM.local could not be
contacted. Ensure that the DNS domain name is typed correctly." And it is!

This is a Standard Server 2003 joining the domain DI-COMM.local hosted from
a SBS 2003 server as an additional domain controller for redundancy purposes.

Wow
Where to start.
We are going to go back to the beginning
1. Disjoin your standard Sever form the domain
2. Manually assign your standard server a static IP in the same range as
your SBS server. Make the Gateway address on standard sever, the IP address
of the SBS Server.
3. Make the DNS Server address on your standard server the IP address of
the SBS server. DO NOT add any other DNS servers
4. Get this document.

Follow the instructions.

I was thinking....maybe....just maybe I needed to have my DNS addresses
point
to the DC instead of the router, so I changed them, and got this error:

The wizard cannot gain access to the list of domains in the forest.
This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. For more
information...... http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=5171

The error is:
The RPC server is unavailable.

I went to that link, but it didn't seem to have any relevant
information....I could be wrong though..??

Add the 2nd server 2003 as a domain member server and you will then be
able
to login with domain accounts.

i have a sbs 2003 server acting as PDC and have another server that we
had
to
get standard server 2003 and put it on there (due to intel's
compatibility
discrepancies and general lack of intelligence). my question is,
obviously
there is some sort of compatibility issue where sbs 2003 want to be the
boss
of it all and doesn't play nice with other servers, so, with just
standard
server 2003 on the 2nd server, i want to have a domain user account on
the
server with some local priveliges. every time i try to add a user, it
only
adds local users, not domain users, therefore, inorder to do much of
anything
on the standard 2003, i have to login with local administrative
account,
or
constantly use the "run as" under the domain account, which really
doesn't
seem like it is being added to the server when i log in with the domain
account, because it will take forever to load and create the profile
and
everything.
