Re: Windows 2003 SBS will not shut down

How long have you waited for the server to shut down (at least 15-20
minutes)?
Please post an ipconfig /all for the server.

You might want to uninstall the driver for the modem, shutdown, remove the
modem and then reboot to take it out of the equation. If you have another
video card, replace the current one. Maybe also uninstall or disable any
utilities or services installed by the individual drivers for your hardware
devices. Same goes for any UPS that you have attached (especially if it's
attached via USB).

Mr. Porter again thank you for sticking with me. As you instructed I did a
safe mode boot. It shut down perfectly. (I then In Normal startup mode)did
a
msconfig disable all services and startup. Again if shut down perfectly.
Prior to installing SBS I ran eval of both XP pro & Vista and experienced
no
shut down problems. The device manager is clean - all devices installed
right
from the SBS install disks. hardware as follows - Raptor SATA hard drive,
Intel Pro S (LAN) & VE (WAN)NIC adapters, Nvidia 5700 Graphics Card,
Creative
PCI DI5630 Modem (onboard sound shut off in bios) SoundMAX - Memory
Corsair
PC3200
Is there a log file for shutdown? there is nothing in the event logs that
indicates a problem - Next step? suggestions?

Does it shut down properly in Safe Mode?

Maybe also do a clean boot to trace the problem:

Have you updated your server's BIOS?
Is this SBS 2003, SBS 2003 SP1, or SBS 2003 R2?
Are you finishing the integrated setup (Continue Setup icon on the
server
desktop) beofer you apply the security updates?
