Re: Internal Website

I guess I would like to learn ASP and SQL Server. I would rather
custom build my portal for the company and use Sharepoint sites for the
various departmental groups for collaboration.

Can anyone recommend a good book(s)/site(s) for this? I learned PHP
and MySQL very quickly but I had a great book

Thanks.

As Chris mentioned, you can't put Apache on the SBS. I tried it once on a
test server and it was a big mess, resulting in rebuilding the whole box.

How long does it take to learn ASP? Well how long did it take you to learn
PHP?

As to Sharepoint, it is fully customizable and actually a great starting
point for handling trouble tickets. If you want to spend some time learning
it would be much more effective to buy a bock on Sharepoint. Jim Buyens MS
book "Windows SharePoint Services" is quite good.

Hi,

I am running SBS 2003. I have Sharepoint and SQL Server running. I
want to code a sort of portal website where I can post news, documents,
forms for equipment and software requests, and for trouble tickets, and
FAQs. I do not have very much experience with Sharepoint Services and
I would like to code this myself (I don't like the layout of the
Sharepoint Site for the portal, it is great for team sites within our
organization). My dilemma is this. I have written many web
applications using PHP and MySQL (because its free). I am trying to
decide if I should just install Apache and run it on a different port
then code in PHP and interface with SQL server or if I should try to
learn ASP and create it within IIS.

Any suggestions are welcomed. How hard is ASP to learn for someone
with a PHP background? What do I have the ability to do with SBS (I am
assuming the .NET framework is not installed.... ?)

THanks

.
