Thanks for all your help. I would have contacted APC, as I have in the
past,
you are correct they are very helpful. But they are not open on the
weekends.

I decided to try the edit registry tactic. I fired up regedit, and
started
at the top (with the "find next" menu option under edit), looking
for"Powerchute". I deleted all instances of it I could find, including
the
one which lists the name in the "Services" section. Of course I backed up
the
registry before starting this.

Powerchute re-installed like a champ and I'm back in business!!

And I'll keep those links for future reference.

Thanks again!

I have a problem removing all components of the APC PowerChute Network
Shutdown program. I am trying to reinstall it and it keeps telling
me that I have to remove the existing one first.

What happened was that I first installed it, then wanted to upgrade
the Java
1.4.2 runtime that it uses. I should have rewmoved the PowerChute
before removing java, but I removed Java first.

When first prompted to remove PowerChute, I tried the add/remove
program utility in Control Panel but that wouldn't do it, it only
allowed me to remove the name in the list of programs. So far I have
removed all visible files and the APC directory. I even stopped the
service and removed registry entries pertaining to the APC and the
Powerchute program. But still Powerchute shows up in the list of
services under "Services".

Anyone have any tips on removing items from the list of services?

Try calling APC - they have very helpful and friendly tech support
people.
