Yes, new server. Old server was SBS 2000. New one is SBS 2003.

I don't understand why I have to make this change *every* time a new
user logs onto a workstation. Shouldn't I be able to log onto that
workstation as its administrator, and tell it once and for all to
stop looking to a proxy server?

No, because that's part of each user's profile. A better option would be to
use a GPO to control this, for all users on all computers.

may be a good place to start.

when you say a new file server, do you mean a new SBS server?

And, if the new server's name is different than the old server name,
yes you would need to make some adjustment, as you are doing.

Hello,

We got a new file server. I got everything on the network switched
to the new server just fine, but whenever a user is first logged
onto a workstation, I have to uncheck "Use a proxy server..."

It's always checked by default, pointing to the name of the old
server, at port 8080. And no internet access until it's unchecked.
I uncheck it. Then if a different user logs on to that computer for
the first time, the box is checked again!

All workstations have Domain Users added to the local Administrators
group. And all users belong to Domain Users.

This is an annoying problem - every time there's a new user, or an
old user logs on to a different workstation, they cannot get online
so they call me.

Any help will be graciously appreciated!!

Matthew
