Cris. I tried your suggestion and it all works fine, thank you. I think the
problem was the broadband set up and that I was putting in the wrong IP
address for the router and so the server couldn't find it. Checking the
192.168.1.1 page settings gave a different IP address than the one I had
originally put in.
Thanks again for your help.
Regards,
Stuart

That's correct. On the router page (192.168.1.1), it lists the following:
Encapsulation - RFC 2364 PPPoA
Multiplexing - VC
Qos Type - UBR
Virtual Circuit - 0 VPI and 38 VCI
Local DHCP Server - Disabled.
I did try to change the settings on the router to PPPoE, but it just drops
the broadband connection.
Thanks,
Stuart

Your router is actually handling the PPPoA, correct?

I have not posted before so I hope this can help with my problem.....
I have a Dell Server running Small Business Server 2003 R2. The
initial
set
up went well and I was working through the 'To Do List' and had got to
the
Internet Connection Set Up.
I did not have any problems with internet access prior the the upgrade.
My
original set up was a Linksys Broadband Router with a PPPoA set up and
acting
as a DCHP server. The individual PC's connect wirelessly to the router
for
the internet.
I did the initial set up without any problems (well I thing so). The
next
item on the To Do List was to set up the internet access. The first
thing
I
did was to disabled the DCHP server on the router and proceeded to set
up
the
OS Wizard. The Wizard froze several times, but seems only to allow me
to
set
up a PPPoE connection.
The current situation is:
1. The router still shows the internet connection is live.
2. I cannot connect to the internet wirelessly anymore.
3. Windows has let me put in various IP addresses (I obtained them from
the
router under 'Status', but Windows does flag up conflicts), but the
Server
cannot seem to connect.
I am at my wits end and would appreciate any guidance.....
Incidentally,
I
am not a 'techy', just a surveyor trying to set up a small network.
Thanks in anticipation.
Stuart
