Hi Neadom
Yo can't demote the SBS and you can't use RENDOM on any Exchange server
especially SBS. To rename SBS server or Domain you must latten and reinstall
and best practice calls for a private AD name like .local or .lan anyway for
AD with as many Public Domains as you need for Exchange and Web Sites.

Well I would rather not have the client spend any more money on
software if we can make it work with some modifications.
So let me understand. I need to do the following:
Demote the SBS and give it a real DNS name like office.mydomain.com and
rejoin all of the local machines to the domain.
Demote the W2k3 Server and add it to the domain as another site. Over
my VPN.(Not sure how to add it as another AD site.)
Rejoin all of those local machines to the domain?
Once I do that do how do I make sure that Exchange Server stays the
Exchange server. I need to do this because this is where we have the
most bandwidth and the server is built to handel the exchange store.
Thanks again for your help!

We took this installation over mid stream.
This is how it was setup. This will be our first multi site
installation. I am doing this for a friend. So I need help with the
best solution.
I think the best solution is a single domain with two AD sites....SBS in
the
main office, a DC/DNS/file/print server in the other. I don't see why
they
need another Exchange server, but maybe they do. Hard to say.
Exchange is setup and running Active Sync, OWA, OMA and some database
stuff. I have about 14 Machines on this domain.
On the SBS it is running as a file/database server.
No Exchange? It's also a DC, of course - SBS can't be a regular server.
How
many users/computers on the SBS domain?
ISA is NOT running on either of these machines.
My W2K3 server is registed with a certificate and domain name of
computername.mydomain.com. This is the mail server address for OWA
and ActiveSync.
Not relevant here, I think, but coolio.
I would like them part of the same forest. Just not sure where to
start.
You can't join the existing remote DC and Exchange box to the SBS domain,
of
course. If the 'technical investment' in that environment is greater than
in
the one where SBS sits, and you don't want to flatten & start over,
perhaps
you ought not to use SBS at all - get regular W2003/E2003 for *that*
location and join those new boxes to the existing AD.
Thanks for your help.

I have 2 machines in 2 different locations. Each machine is
operating in different domains. The W2K3 is operating as
mydomainlocation.com and the SBS is operating as mydomain.local. I
have a VPN connection between them.
One is running SBS 2003 and the other is running W2K3 Server. The
W2K3 Server is also running Exchange.
What are my options to get the machines talking with each other and
keep the Exchange Server on the W2K3 Server? I know SBS does not
support trusted domains.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I'm not sure what you mean by "machines talking with each other" but
if I understand what you're looking for, you really can't do it if
you have two different forests....what's the reason you don't have
this additional location set up as part of your AD domain? You can
have additional DCs in the same AD domain (recommended) in different
locations, and you can also have additional Exchange servers
(although this is likely not needed, honestly - you may need to
provide more detail as to your setup & goals).
