Check your event logs.
Event logs...At my workstation (P4 2.8 1GB XP) I logged off as me and
logged in as the suspected bad username.
Was this the first time you'd logged in to this computer as this 'bad'
account?
Are you 100% sure this account does not have a roaming profile path
specified in
Have you made GPO modifications directly on the server?
Then worked on my laptop. I
sat here maybe 15 mins not much happened then I left the building went
over to the other plant and came back (maybe an hour) and when I got
back my pc made it to the desktop as the "bad" username.
Youch.
I attempted to save the error logs to my documents (bad username my
docs) and it failed saying the required priviledge is not held by the
client (WTF?).
Well, I wouldn't have bothered with that, myself - let's not worry about it
yet.
The System log has
- 6 red X's for DCOM event 10020
- 2 Yellow !'s for LsaSrv event 40960
- 2 Yellow !'s for LsaSrv event 40961
Network problems...Check them out in www.eventid.net
event 40960 is "the security system detected an attempted downgrade
attack for server ldap/sbs2003.mid-statemachine.local" Failure code
from Kerberos "currently no logon servers available. (0xc000005e)
That's not pretty. I suggest you post an unedited ipconfig /all from this
workstation & from the server.....
event 40961is "the security system could not establish a secured
connection with the server ldap/sbs2003.... no auth protocol was
available.
The Application log had
-1 Red x for Userenv event 1053
-1 red x for .NET runtime event id 0
also some yellow !'s for microsoft fax (we do not use)
I'd stop & disable that service via group policy. You don't need it. Same
with Computer Browser.
eventid.net may help with those errors - but you should also install the
User Profile Hive Cleanup utility on all workstations (free download from
MS, and why it is not part of a service pack I will never ever know).
Thanks
