RE: MTU Issues

1. That is correct. Although, you could have lowered the MTU on the server
to 1460 and left the Netgear at 1500.

2. The default MTU in SBS 2003 will depend on the media the network
adapter is connected to.
For ethernet, it is 1500.

See Method 3 in KB 314825 below, for the location in the registry for
setting or checking for a hardcoded MTU.
