Re: Hardware VPN: 2 NICS --> 1 NIC - Non-Profit Needs HELP!

Thanks for the quick reply. I got the main office up and running on the
VPN Router. I DMZed the Server and all web services are working.
Everything looks good. I forgot about the ipconfig /all command. Came
in handy. Thanks again - now I am off to the remote location. Any tips
would be great...

Hi There,

I'm by no means an expert on SBS, but been in networking for years. I
would configure the linksys with a wan address of 207.114.12.154, make
sure nat is on and then configure the lan address to be on the same
subnet as the lan card on the SBS box, eg 172.1.5.56.1 Also turn off
DHCP on the linksys as the SBS is better to do that.
Then run ciecw and enter the IP address of the routers lan port as the
default gateway, enter the ISP's DNS server addresses - (ipconfig /all
should give you those from the current setup)
That should start you off I think.

Hello all,

It is 7 AM. I was up to 3 AM this morning trying to get this simple
task finished. I failed: set everything back to normal. Help! I am the
network admin for Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland. The goal: to
add a Linksys BEFVP41v2 router to our small business network so we can
setup a site-to-site VPN with a new Club we opened. I know little about
DHCP & DNS (but I am reading every article I can to learn). The guys
from the geeksquad donated their time and helped me get the initial SBS
network configuration up and running, though they didn't educate me
much on DHCP & DNS. Unfortunately, the geek squad manager has changed
and they aren't readily helping anymore. Here is what I know about the
setup:

Current Setup: 2 NICs.
[DSL Modem] == [SBS 2003] == [Switch] == [Clients]
Static IP on the modem is fowarded to bgcsmadmin (sbs2003).

Microsoft Windows [Version 5.2.3790]

E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Server Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.1.5.56 (SBS LAN IP)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter Outside Internet:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : myhome.westell.com (dsl
modem)
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 207.114.12.154 (SBS
Static WAN IP)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 207.114.12.1

The Setup I need:
[DSL Modem] == [LINKSYS BEFVP41 v2] == [Switch] == [Clients & SBS
2003].

After reading similar postings on this website, It sounded easy. Change
the topology, turn off DHCP on the linksys and run the CIECW. Not that
simple. When it got complicated, I unhooked the modem and the router
and took them out of the picture. I figured, lets just get the SBS
running on 1 NIC then I can throw in the internet factor. But still
failee - maybe it was the 3 am blues.

A step by step would be great. Any services such as a phone call or a
service beyond posting in this group to help can be considered a
tax-deductible donation to BGCSM (http://bgcsm.net). Thank you all in
advance.I will be surfing the web looking for more resources all day...
