Typo, should be 2-3 GB.

Mike-did you really mean you have 200-300 GB of emails or was that a typo?

I'm about ready to do just that, but was really hoping that the
experience on this NG might have some insight on how I can fix what I
broke. I'm worried that I'll miss something on the fresh install - I
know about the wizards and have learned to trust them. I'm thinking more
about the accounts, the emails (200-300 GB worth), data on SharePoint,
folders and files stored on the server, etc.
As for Exchange, no "cure" yet. Am waiting on replies to my post about
whether to do a reinstall.
Thanks for the checklist, it helps.
The M & M's are a great resource, and I just might contact them. With my
AD/network problems, I'm just not sure if anyone can remote into the
server.
I can access the internet and am using Outlook Express now for this NG
from the server.
I've got emails coming in - I only know that because I see all sorts of
junk mail in IMF Archive Manager. It's SMTP. I shut off the POP3
several weeks ago.

Wow Mike, you seem to be having some probs, I see you had exchange prob
too with mounting databases... has that fixed ?

Personally I would reinstall a fresh install as you admit you are a
newbie and errors you are getting shouldn't be happening. You have been
down a week too.

Fresh install you should be up and running in a day....

Check list...

1. New install must have same domain name and server name.
2. HOW MANY USERS... we will have profile issues but small price to pay
to get server back.
3. Once installed need to get Backup Exec installed so we can recover
Exchange database. ( assume you was backing up exchange).. dont restore
to original location, intially restore to alternative location.
4. Use user wizard and setup users (hopefully not too many).. dont worry
about exchange recovery, duplicate mailboxes will appear but that can be
over come.
5. DO NOT ALLOW EMAILS TO COME IN, (are you using SMTP or POP3 ?

Alternatively can contact the magical M&Ms for remote support...

Running SBS 2003 Premium, Exchange, ISA 2004, WSUS, 2 NICs and a
router.
=====================
To make a long story short, I've had to restore my server from backup
tape (BackUp Exec ver. 10.d) to try and get us back on-line. Still a
long way to go. One of my challenges (I'm still a newbie in admin
skills, goes with the territory for a small non-profit), is with AD. I
get repeated errors for event IDs 4000 and 4013. I followed the
recommendations of MS article 316685, Active Directory-Integrated
Domain Name Is Not Displayed in DNS Snap-in with Event ID 4000 and 4013
Messages, in hopes I can get this working. I modified the registry and
GP's late last week, but am still getting the errors. I'm not sure if
I disabled security logging (step 5) properly - I went into GPMC and
searched for all instances of security logging and set them all to "not
defined". I can't get into ISA as it says the server cannot be found
(gotta be a AD thing), so I can't check that.
Any advice out there?

TIA,
Mike Webb
