Hi Alex

Make sure to back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you
know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information
about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, click the following

256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows registry


Compare a working SBS Server with the same service pack level to this
broken server.

regedit
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MsSearch
and
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Search

Export these keys and import from a working server.

Also the folder structure,

if that fails then

827449 How to manually reinstall the Microsoft Search service for an
instance of SQL Server 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;827449

You can also accomplish the same tasks by backing up Exchange then removing
Exchange, reinstall Exchange then recover the database.

| This morning's Adminsistraror report advised thast An autostrated service

| Microsoft Search - failed to start.. Whern I go to Services listing and

| to start same I get an error message: COuld not start service on local
| compuiter. Error 2 file could not be found. Never had this before
