Re: Moving away from SBS 2003 server

You can't dcpromo to demote and still run it. You need to remove it from the
network when you move the FSMO roles of it. Personally, I do this by
removing the SBS box from the network, and seizing the FSMO roles. Then,
once you're sure everything is as you'd hoped, rebuild the former SBS box
from bare metal.

Hello

Currently the domain had a SBS 2003 server that is running Exchange 2003
and is also the DC/GC for the domain. We want to move away from SBS so we
have purchased two new servers. One server will be the DC/GC and the
other will be for dedicated Exchange 2003.

Once i add the new Exchange 2003 server to the current SBS exchange org,
then move
all the mailboxes, public folders and system folders over, then setup the
other server as the new DC/GC, can i then remove Exhcange 2003 from the
SBS server and remove it from the org, and also DCpromo the SBS server to
make it a member server? I will reinstall the OS eventuall on the SBS
server to windows 2003 standard.

Thanks
